Insight Health Maintaining All Services at Trumbull Hospital

WARREN, Ohio – While Insight Health Systems begins to operate the two Trumbull County hospitals owned by Steward Health Care System following the preliminary acceptance of a bankruptcy settlement, Trumbull Regional Medical Center remains operational and no services have been suspended, according to Insight.

The company said in a news release that after assessing the situation at Trumbull Regional for more than 48 hours, all service lines are fully staffed and patient safety and quality standards are being met.

“As a clinician-led organization, we are committed to providing stability and quality care that this community deserves as we turn a new chapter. We are grateful to all the doctors, nurses and staff for their continued dedication, strength and collaboration through the transition and we look forward to a longstanding partnership with this community,” a spokesperson said in a release provided by Trumbull Regional, adding more details about the transition will be coming next week.

Two local groups, Western Reserve Health Education Inc. and Warren City Hospital, which had been raising money and working with county and city officials to purchase and save the hospitals, released a statement Friday saying they are optimistic about Insight’s plans for the hospitals.

“The transition of operating leadership from Steward Health Care to Insight absolutely increases the likelihood that the two hospitals will survive and thrive in not-for-profit models, so we are completely in support of it,” said Dr. Kimberly Howe, president of Western Reserve Health Education, a nonprofit organization that provides medical residency training at Trumbull Regional and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital.

“We were very interested in purchasing the hospitals and hiring a management team to operate them. But our efforts to raise the required funds were not progressing quickly enough. We are pleased that a not-for-profit operator with Insight’s track record has stepped up with plans to meet the same goals we were pursuing.”

Insight’s plan to continue operating the hospitals “envisions the same results we were working to achieve – the preservation and upgrade of Trumbull and Hillside,” said John T. Woods, Warren City Hospital secretary.

“Even though our original plan to work with WRHE to buy the hospitals did not secure the funding we needed, we believe our efforts over the past several months established momentum that kept Trumbull and Hillside open and eventually drew the commitment of a quality operator,” Woods said. “We want to thank all who supported our efforts. We look forward to supporting Insight Health.”
