PS5 Pro pre-orders are now live! The first wave of PlayStation 5 Pro pre-orders will start later today, Thursday, September 26, exclusively at PS Direct in the US and UK.
PlayStation Direct in the UK has opened up pre-orders, but you’ll likely join a short queue before being allowed in to browse for the PS5 Pro or 30th Anniversary Collection pre-orders. We’ve reflected this by updating the links below and are leading with UK retailers as that’s where the action is. For reference, other retailers will begin pre-orders on October 10, 2024 – two weeks after today’s first opportunity.
We know a thing or two about huge tech launches, pre-order rushes, and trying to get your hands on the latest hot-ticket items – we’re hardened veterans from the PS5 stock shortages of 2020 and 2021. We’ve learned when PS5 Pro pre-orders are going to start and where you’ll be able to place a PlayStation 5 Pro pre-order when they go live.
Despite its relative niche and enthusiast pitching (and its chunky price tag), we expect PS5 Pro pre-orders to be immensely popular – perhaps surprisingly so, like the PlayStation Portal was last year. As a result, we’ve gathered all the best quick links and information so you can quickly navigate the process and get to where you need to be fast.
PS5 Pro pre-orders: Quick links
We’ve started a quick links list here because – excitedly – some retailers have gone live with their listing pages already. It’s worth noting though that these retailers are starting their pre-orders on the second date, October 10, and we’ve labeled that next to them too.
PS5 Pro pre-orders: cut to the chase
- Price: $699.99 / £699.99 / AU$1,199 (no disc drive or vertical stand included)
- Pre-order dates: September 26 (PlayStation Direct) and October 10 (other retailers)
- Release Date: November 7, 2024
PS5 Pro pre-orders – US
We’ve gathered up all the best links and places to bookmark right now ahead of PS5 Pro pre-orders launching in a few days – but the huge news is that some listing pages have gone live already! We’ve led with those ones first, before continuing with other retailers who are yet to go live. Remember that pre-orders will be exclusive to PS Direct on September 26 in the US, with other retailers going live two weeks later on October 10.
The following retailers don’t have their listing pages up yet, but we’re leading with PlayStation Direct as that store will be going live first on September 26. UK pre-orders have started at PlayStation Direct so we’re hoping to see US pre-orders open up soon.
PS5 Pro pre-orders – UK
Likewise, in the UK these are the sites and retailers where we think the PS5 Pro pre-orders will begin. Once again, remember that PS5 Pro pre-orders will begin on September 26 exclusively at PS Direct before other retailers get in on the action two weeks later on October 10.
PS5 Pro pre-orders – AUS
Going live at 10am (AEST) on Thursday, September 26, PS5 Pro pre-orders are now live in Australia! We recommend creating an account on your retailer of choice and signing in before you start your purchase for a smoother experience. It’s also worth mentioning that most retailers have a purchase limit of one console per customer.
What’s the PS5 Pro pre-order start time?
The PS5 Pro is available to pre-order from PlayStation Direct in the UK right now with pre-orders opening up officially at 10am. Fans were able to join a virtual waiting room and queue from about 8am in advance of that time. This came after a period of uncertainty about the start time but one that PlayStation UK ended on X/Twitter by confirming a start time of 10am in a post on the social media platform.
As for a US start time, we think it’ll be a 10am ET start time to echo that of the UK one – strap in!
The second date for PS5 Pro pre-orders, in regions where PS Direct is active, is October 10, as this is when other retailers get in on the action. This will give many folks two bits of the cherry – or the option and flexibility to pre-order at their retailer of choice on either date. We have no idea what time of day these will go live, but it’ll certainly be worth checking as the clock turns midnight.
PS5 Pro pre-orders: Tips and advice
I’ve covered hardware launches for years now, so know a thing or two about potential tips and tricks which might smooth out your process, help you get through the from listing page to check out, and make the whole experience a bit easier. There’s no silver bullet of course, but I expect PS5 Pro demand to be high so it’s worth considering the following:
Log in and add your payment details ahead of time
If you can – and I know there’s no concrete confirmation of start time from Sony yet – make sure you’re logged in with any retailer or PS accounts and have got your payment details either updated if they live on your account, or to hand and ready to go if you’re manually putting them in. Believe us, we heard horror stories during the PS5 stock shortage of people getting PS5s into the carts with no problems only to lose out because they took too long paying…
Stick with reliable retailers
This one is a bit moot for the first pre-order window as that’s exclusive to PlayStation Direct, but when pre-orders open up to other retailers, I really recommend just sticking to those that we all know are reliable. While that does mean you’re going where the biggest crowds are likely to go, you’ll have much more confidence in the payment process and use of the website generally. When you start considering off-the-beaten-track retailers things can become hairy… This principle also applies to being wary of third-party sellers on the likes of Walmart and Amazon – steer clear if it’s too early for them to be offering stock, or if a listing is too good to be true.
Consider a retailer membership
We saw how some PS5 restocks were kept for Best Buy Total Tech members or similar, for example, and while we don’t expect PS5 Pro pre-orders to be gate-kept like that, it did reveal the potential extra convenience and streamlining that being a member can have. Heck, you might even get free or faster postage, or a discount when adding another item.
Don’t dismiss bundles
Speaking of extra items, it’s worth considering PS5 Pro bundles, should retailers offer them. If your budget can extend to something a bit beyond the Pro’s list price of $699.99 / £699.99 / AU$1,199 then you might be able to select a bundle that’s perhaps slightly less in demand due to that higher price. And on this note, definitely don’t forget about a disc drive if there are bundles that include them! This might be the best way to get one of the disc drives right now, with demand recently skyrocketing.
PS5 Pro pre-orders: Disc drive and stand
Soon after the PS5 Pro was announced and it was confirmed that it won’t be sole with a disc drive or vertical stand, interest in both, but particularly the former skyrocketed. As a result, it is going to pay to get both of those items sorted sooner rather than later as we head towards the pre-order date.
If you already own a bunch of the best PS5 games on disc then making sure you have one of the disc drives ahead of your PS5 Pro pre-order is going to be a smart move.
We have a dedicated page helping you find where to buy a PS5 Pro disc drive and vertical stand, but if you’re looking for a quick look right now, then check out the prices below.
Should you pre-order the PS5 Pro?
While the case for actually having a PS5 Pro will be personal and depend on if you want to upgrade your setup and have the most powerful PlayStation 5 console, actually committing to a PS5 Pro pre-order to acquire your machine is a question to answer in and of itself.
To start, if you are already committed to the idea of getting the most performant PS5 console going and want to make the purchase, then placing a pre-order is, at its base level, just the best way to ensure you get one. We are predicting that the demand for the PS5 Pro will be high so stock could become wobbly during and then after the pre-order phase.
The latter point is also one I think could be very important. We’ve all seen the stock situations surrounding Sony hardware in recent years, and part of me expects the demand for the PS5 Pro to be just as high as the Portal was last year, for example. As a result, even if you’d rather wait perhaps, but have made your mind up to commit to the Pro, then I’d recommend placing a pre-order to secure your unit and avoid any possible stock trouble that might come after the pre-order phase.
Another fact that may convince you to pre-order could be the stock levels of other items, and the possibility of bundles that bag you everything you need in one fell swoop. Recent stock levels of the disc drive and vertical stand have plummeted due to news of the PS5 Pro’s release so getting them separately is proving tricky. As a result, I really think it’d make sense that PlayStation Direct and other retailers should be offering bundles that include the disc drive and vertical stand as those will both likely be items that the Pro audience is keen on. For the record, I’m not 100% sure that these bundles will end up in a total price that saves you money, but ensuring you get all the bits in one go would be a good argument for placing a PS5 Pro pre-order.
If you are committed to buying a PS5 Pro but are happy to wait, or if value for money and not paying a list price is your goal, then I would not recommend placing a PS5 Pro pre-order. Pre-orders for the new console won’t see you save any money on the machine itself, and you’ll be paying full whack. Aside from free shipping perhaps, a PS5 Pro pre-order will get you a unit – but it’ll be full price, starting at $700 / £700 / AU$1,199.

I’m a gaming and PlayStation hardware expert who has covered everything in the gaming tech sphere for years. I’m also a huge PlayStation fanatic, having had one constantly, in one shape or form, since the mid-90s. It’s my favorite platform because of, simply put, the quality games and great hardware, but also from an accessibility perspective. As such, I’m the precise enthusiast audience for the PS5 Pro and so I’ve been invested in the PS5 Pro news since way back when, and am incredibly excited to cover the pre-order phase as well continuing to stay up-to-date with all the latest rumors, leaks, and updates regarding Sony’s gaming hardware, accessories, and games.
PS5 Pro pre-orders: FAQs
How much will PS5 Pro pre-orders be?
The PS5 Pro is a premium console and will cost $699.99 / £699.99 (around AU$1,052.99).
We’re unsure whether Sony or other retailers will bundle up the disc drive and/or the vertical stand in the PS5 Pro pre-orders, however. While this would make sense, retailers have been struggling to keep up with demand for both after the PS5 Pro was announced.
Will a PS5 Pro pre-order get me a disc drive and stand?
Sadly, a PS5 Pro pre-order will only bag you the premium, enhanced console in its default, all-digital form. If you want to get the disc drive and stand, you’ll have to buy them separately.
Is there a new DualSense controller to go with PS5 Pro?
Unfortunately, there is no revised or improved version of the DualSense controller to come out with the PS5 Pro. There was a rumored ‘V2’ variant that seemed to appear at retailers earlier this year, but nothing official has come of it.
