Texas Health Resources announced plans to expand services in Kaufman County with a new full-service hospital and on-campus medical office building in Forney. Between 2020 and 2023, Kaufman County led the nation in population growth, and Forney is among the fastest-growing cities in the nation. Texas Health is expanding to meet the needs of residents in the growing suburb.
The new hospital will be built on 50 acres and located along Highway 80, bringing the first acute care hospital to the city of Forney. It will be designed for future growth, but the current iteration is set to be complete in 2027. An emergency department, operating suites, labor and delivery, imaging, and other services will complete the hospital’s comprehensive coverage.
“To better meet the community’s increasing needs, we are excited to offer more services and access points throughout Kaufman County, including constructing the first hospital in Forney,” said Barclay Berdan, FACHE, CEO of Texas Health. “With deep roots in the community, including a hospital in Kaufman that has served this community for more than 40 years, we are excited to bring additional health care for Kaufman County residents.”
Texas Health says the new facility will also add a few hundred jobs to the area. Texas Health already has a strong presence in the region, with 91-bed Texas Health Presbyterian Kaufman, Texas Health Physicians Group practices in the area, and Texas Health Rockwall. The system’s Rockwall Hospital completed a $104 million expansion last year that nearly doubled the facility’s footprint, adding 32,000 square feet and renovating 51,000 square feet over four years of construction.
The announcement continues the trend of local health systems responding to population booms in North Texas’ outer ring of suburbs. Methodist Health System is currently expanding north with the construction of its Celina hospital. Last year, Medical City acquired hospitals in Sachse and Wise County, while Baylor Scott & White Health is significantly expanding its hospital in Waxahachie. Both Cook Children’s and Children’s Health have expanded their presence in Prosper in recent years. As the population continues to surge around North Texas, health systems are responding by offering more services close to home.
“We are thrilled to welcome this facility to Forney, as it will provide our residents with top-quality healthcare right here in our city,” said Forney Mayor Jason Roberson. “We look forward to welcoming Texas Health Resources and the positive impact it will have on our community.”
